ACCA stands in support of a First Nations Voice to Parliament. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which calls for “constitutional reforms to empower our people and take a rightful place in our own country”.
Voting YES to establish an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament is an historic opportunity to empower First Nations people, and an important step towards treaty and truth telling in this country.
We acknowledge the diverse views within First Nations communities on The Voice. We also acknowledge that First Nations sovereignty was never ceded in Australia, and the legacies of settlement, colonisation and injustice are responsibilities that we must collectively address – and set right as a nation.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a generous invitation to the people of Australia to walk with First Nations people in a collective movement towards a better future.
At ACCA we are committed to promoting First Nations voices, leadership, knowledge and self-determination. In this spirit, we hope that the achievement of The Voice will be an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to come together towards a more equitable future.
We encourage our communities to vote YES.
