In these new works for Mirka, Alex Pittendrigh invited us into a world of the organically fantastic. Much like a daydream, or meander, the work of Pittendrigh, made from sculpted blu-tak spread like blossom across the surface of a panel. Working by hand, without the aid of tools Pittendrigh works from memory. Rather than focusing on replicating material researched, he allows his mind to wander, allowing his subconscious to guide the decision making process. This haptic approach to art practice links the artist’s hand to the subconscious, the work becomes a form of documentation to the wanderings of the mind. The outcome becomes the sensual meditation of a reverie.
