ACCA in the City

MORE ACCA Pop-Ups
ACCA in the City

Following the success of pop-up programs in regional Victoria and beyond, ACCA will again venture out of its Sturt Street home with a seven day program of events in and around the city of Melbourne from September 21-27.  ACCA in the City is a week of unexpected art events and performance actions held in historic sites, landmarks, and social and business spaces around Melbourne.

Leading local and international artists have created works specifically for the city, designed to draw attention to the characteristics of Melbourne itself.

Tel Aviv-based group Public Movement have created a new work drawing on the cultural conflicts and community found on Melbourne’s sporting fields.  A world-renowned performance body, Public Movement investigates and stages actions in public spaces and explores the possibilities that reside when a group of people act together.   The movement have created folk dances, restaged political events and reenacted moments in the lives of individuals, communities and institutions in locations across the world including Israel, Poland, Italy and Germany.

In Melbourne, performers will make their way to the City Square from various significant Melbourne sites to present a game of actions inspired by  and commenting on Melbourne’s sporting traditions and behaviours.

Public Movement: 5-6pm daily, Monday 21 – Sunday 27 September.

Lithuanian artist Eglė Budvytytė and seven local performers will make a slow and poetic procession along the banks of the Yarra in a new work that playfully engages with conventional ideas of the body in relation to public space, and is designed to offer respite from the hustle of city life.

Eglė Budvytytė: 12-1pm daily, Monday 21 – Sunday 27 September.

Melbourne artist Kate Daw will mark the beginning and end of the working day with a performance of the Grateful Dead song Attics of My Life on the steps of the Melbourne Town Hall. Daw will also transform the Town Hall’s Swanston Street façade with lights and wallpaper as a daily reminder of the importance of creativity and counterculture in the city.

Kate Daw: 9am and 5pm (and afterhours) daily, Monday 21 – Friday 25 September.
