Propulsion was a video projection installation depicting two male bodies in different kinds of motion: the first riding a motorbike at high speed when a tear forms in the corner of his eye; the second on a moving walkway which moves so fast that he loses his footing and does all he can to hang on. As a sculptor, Meade’s concerns with the figure were translated into these large-scale video images. The odd, curious details attending these events were extrapolated to formal arrangements of bodies in space and time. As Meade said: ‘the body is presented as a permeable object in space: breathing, feeling, weeping and moving through time’.
