Leah King-Smith: Family Myths

19 Aug–2 Oct 1994

ACCA, Dallas Brooks Drive, The Domain

In this exhibition Leah King-Smith used large-scale photography and sound to explore ideas about her own identity and sense of place. The works produced for this exhibition were re-workings of family photographs taken by her father and recorded conversations with her mother, which combined to create a picture of indigenous identity, personal history and social issues. This was one of three exhibitions programmed at this time that considered notions of identity as constructed by race, memory, gender and location.
