Marian Drew: Things Past

19 Aug–2 Oct 1994

ACCA, Dallas Brooks Drive, The Domain

This installation incorporated video, large-scale photography and drawing by this Brisbane-based artist. Drew crushed and bent large drawings, layered with collage and papers, to break the smooth surface of the gallery walls which were projected on with an image that slowly rotated around the room. Playing with various surfaces, Drew explored the function of ritual and its relationship with the activities of daily life. This was one of three exhibitions programmed at this time that considered notions of identity as constructed by race, memory, gender and location.
