Republic Tower, Queen Street, Melbourne
For weeks, British artist, Mariele Neudecker’s massive skull loomed over passers-by on the Republic Tower billboard site. Neudecker’s skull was a vanitas and a striking reminder of the mortality of people and the environment. Situated in Melbourne’s CBD for the city’s hottest, driest summer since 1968, Neudecker’s juxtaposition of arid desert and death had particular resonance.
