Emerging British artists Sonya Hanney and Adam Dade played havoc with a hotel room in the exhibition Stacked Hotel. Under the stealth of night and behind the closed doors of their Melbourne hotel room, Hanney and Dade dismantled the entire contents of the room and stacked them into a sculptural form. Having captured this entire process on video, they then returned the fittings to their original position. The projection of the video was displayed in one of ACCA’s gallery spaces and an over-sized constructed wall mimicking the actual hotel room in another. The artists’ work dealt with impromptu sculptural solutions and commented on the need to re-order space into new comfort zones.
This exhibition was part of the 2001 Melbourne Festival Visual Arts Program.
