Melbourne Slow Down, ACCA 2013

Created by Scottish artist, Jacqueline Donachie and one hundred cyclists, Melbourne Slow Down was the coda to Desire Lines.

ACCA restaged Jacquie’s iconic cycling/drawing work in Melbourne on the morning of Sunday 3 March.

Cyclists attached a plastic water bottle canister to their bikes and filled it with powered chalk. As each cyclist slowly rode, the canister, which has a small hole in the bottom, released a fine line of chalk.

Five teams consisting of up to twenty riders were lead by team captains from each of the local neighbourhood starting points (north, east, south, west and central Melbourne), to the end destination of the ACCA courtyard.

The result was a stunning, ephemeral ribbon of colour throughout the city.
