About the role:

The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art Board of Directors is seeking to appoint an exceptional visual arts leader to lead the organisation and provide a platform for artists to present new and experimental work.

The Artistic Director and CEO is responsible for leading ACCA’s strategic direction and development, initiating and managing its artistic programs, and providing organisational leadership in financial planning, fundraising, business development, audience engagement and marketing. The role involves curating and overseeing exhibitions, publications, commissions, and programs, while maintaining a high international and national profile.

The Artistic Director and CEO will be an experienced and dynamic creative leader and programmer, skilled at mobilising stakeholders and collaborating with partners across the visual arts sector and the community. They will have an exceptional track record leading and inspiring teams, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. They will be entrepreneurial and innovative, and as the face of ACCA, they will be a strong and influential communicator.

Key attributes of the successful candidate are:

  • Recognised leader in contemporary visual arts as a curator, writer, and presenter
  • Leadership experience in a relevant contemporary art organisation
  • Proven track record in delivering successful contemporary art programs, exhibitions, publications, and commissions
  • Demonstrated success in growing audiences for contemporary art and excellent knowledge of contemporary visual artists, art practices, and discourse
  • Strong international and national networks with artists, colleagues, and institutions, along with senior experience representing an arts organisation in public
  • Dynamic, innovative, creative, and engaged, with strong decision-making, sound judgment, and analytic skills
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a collaborative team environment, with expertise in financial management and fundraising
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
