Total Capture is a narrative audio work with live interventions, presented as a counter-intelligence interrogation in four acts. Developed in collaboration between artist/composer Daniel Jenatsch and writer/researcher Samuel Forsythe, the work is informed by Jenatsch’s major commission The Sheraton Hotel Incident 2018, showing as part of ACCA’s exhibition The Theatre is Lying.
Taking place within the gallery, Total Capture depicts an interrogation between a mysterious detainee and interrogator. Under an onslaught of deceptive speech and persuasive intimidation from the interrogator, the detainee—who could be a spy or simply an innocent individual refusing to bend to coercive measures—attempts to use the very same interrogation techniques to deflect questions, reverse the flow of information and acquire leverage of their own.
Through their manipulative dialogue, the two adversaries explore the relationship between power and knowledge, and the nature of the secret techniques and instruments of intelligence.

BIOGRAPHIES
Samuel Forsythe is a writer and researcher exploring the intersections of philosophy, strategic thought and creative practice. He is a graduate of the Philosophy and War studies departments at King’s College London (BA, MA), and the Staedelschule academy of fine arts in Frankfurt, Germany.
Daniel Jenatsch is as an artist and composer. His interest in the space between affect and information, particularly historiographies and artistic research, has informed his work in recorded and synthesised sound, video and performance, with outcomes ranging from multi-media documentaries to experimental operas. Collaboration is central to Jenatsch’s practice. He is a member of music group Sky Needle (2012– present) and performance art collective New Forms of Life (2009/2016), and has created sound and music with various Australian and international artists working across dance, video and performance including Matthew Barney, Jonathan Bepler, Maria von Hausswolf, Ross Manning, Atlanta Eke and Kim Sooja.
