Experience the world premiere of Chinese multi-media artist and iconoclast Lu Yang’s new work Delusional World at Asia TOPA 2020.
Exploring the themes of digital voyeurism and online culture, the first-ever performance of Delusional World takes place on the expansive sandstone arena of Federation Square. In this kinetic, multi-disciplinary piece, Yang uses a contemporary dancer fitted with motion capture technology to control giant avatars of digital deities, Manga inspired mutants, and cyborg recreations of the artist.
Based on experiences of the physical and digital intersections of modern life, the performance pulls the audience into a hyperrealist future in which our transformation into the online is part of daily life.
For this gripping new work, Yang is collaborating with Australian movement artist – Amber McCartney and local experts in digital technologies from the University of Melbourne. Taking cues from Yang’s previous work (Delusional Mandala & Electromagnetic Brainology), Delusional World is a mind-bending hyper-pop experience, inspired by Chinese mythology, online culture, and a new outlook for the shared digital futures of our global community.
