Join us at ACCA for the launch of the online publication Writing in the Expanded Field Vol. 3: Overlapping Writing – the final outcome of ACCA and RMIT’s non/fictionLab 2021 writing program.
The publication will be launched by Max Delany, ACCA’s Artistic Director, Francesca Rendle-Short, writer of essays, memoir and fiction, and Associate Dean, Writing and Publishing at RMIT University, and David Carlin, writer, interdisciplinary creative artist and co-director of RMIT’s non/fictionLab, followed by an improvised ‘Overlapping Reading’ performed by participating writers.
Writing in the Expanded Field Vol. 3: Overlapping Writing presents new writings by 10 program participants, produced in response to and alongside ACCA’s exhibition Overlapping Magisteria: The 2020 Macfarlane Commissions. Writers have participated in a methodology overlapping individual voice with collective agency, writing with editing and publishing, improvisation with composition, and text with sound, image and performance. Overlapping Writing takes the invitation of the exhibition, and its artists’ work, as a provocation for exploring what is possible in writing with art and alongside art, instead of just about it, by way of thickening and unsettling critical and curatorial perspectives with material, poetic and playful ways of knowing.
This publication follows a Public Reading event that took place at ACCA in March 2021, which is recorded as a podcast and has become a component of this online publication.
Program participants: Des Barry, Anna Kate Blair, Alisa Blakeney, Sophia Cai, Kate Jama, Peta Murray, Diego Ramirez, Autumn Royal, Audrey Schmidt and Tina Stefanou.
