ACCA, Dallas Brooks Drive, The Domain
Melbourne artist Tony Clark’s site-specific installation for ACCA was the culmination of eight years investigation into questions about the representations of sculpture. Consisting of a mural painted directly onto the gallery walls, this work was derived from one of the last works by celebrated European artist Eva Hesse. In reproducing this string and latex structure in painted form, Clark set up a dialogue between organic and artificial imagery while questioning notions of classicism and formality. This was one of three exhibitions programmed at this time that considered issues of sculptural representation in different media.
