Laresa Kosloff created a synchronised, multi screen video work that explored the formal and conceptual dynamics of sport and abstraction. Kosloff filmed two performers undertaking various gestures and physical tasks, which appear to belong to categories of sport and/or physical activities. These movements were performed in custom made tracksuits, which created the illusion of weightlessness and levitation. The work was filmed at a local primary school, in an area designated for sporting activities. The concrete walls of this space are painted in a mural that depicts an abstract landscape, and various sporting motifs. Two performers were filmed from four different perspectives, in what appears to be a strange game about trying on different tracksuits. This work extended Kosloff’s interest in the solidarity of purpose demonstrated in sporting pursuits, and how physical movements and abstraction translate into sculptural significance.
