Michael Mulcahy: The Dream and the Daemon

9 Oct–28 Oct 1984

ACCA, Dallas Brooks Drive, The Domain

An exhibition of paintings by visiting Irish artist, Michael Mulcahy, who had recently been included in the 1984 Biennale of Sydney – Private Symbol: Social Metaphor.

Whilst in Australia, Mulcahy completed a series of paintings and works on paper of the Australian outback that sought to capture the stories, legends, beasts and demons that are the hidden presences in the landscape. “The theme of the work could be interpreted as mixing the ancient Celtic sensibility (the daemon) with the primitivism (the dream) of the Aboriginal land” ACCA 1984 Artistic Report.
