Including video and photography, cast and found forms, installations and assemblages, Sculptural Matter explored a sculptural way of thinking and making from both a historical and contemporary perspective.
Sculptural Matter featured works by nine artists who engage with sculpture’s history and traditions of fabrication and display. Presented in ACCA’s Gallery 1, the exhibition presented audiences with a tactile and colourful environment in which to consider space, scale, texture and form.
It included such iconic works as Richard Serra ‘s Hand Catching Lead (1968) and Alina Szapocznikow’s Photosculptures (1971) and new works by contemporary artists, Thea Djordjadze, Nairy Baghramian, Carol Bove, Gabriel Kuri, Sarah Lucas, Shahryar Nashat, and Tatiana Trouve.
