Seven Histories of Australia

23 Sep–29 Oct 1995

ACCA, Dallas Brooks Drive, The Domain

A group exhibition of seven artists that explored public and private histories of Australia. This exhibition came at a time when Australian public histories had undergone revision, giving due place to unacknowledged histories, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, migrant communities and the role of women during periods of exploration, settlement and war. Traditions of oral history had long informed official history with personal narrative, memory and experience. This exhibition traversed expected borders of representation to explore individual experiences and a sense of place.

Curated by Clare Williamson

Exhibiting Artists: Gordon Bennett, Lauren Berkowitz, Elizabeth Gertsakis, Anne Graham, Fiona Macdonald, John Wolseley, HJ Wedge
