Join us to celebrate the publication of a major new monograph edited by Helen Hughes and Amelia Barikin focussing on the work of Tom Nicholson, Lines towards Another, co-published by Sternberg Press; Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane; and Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne. Lines towards Another will be launched by co-editor Helen Hughes, in-conversation with Tom Nicholson.

Tom Nicholson is one of Australia’s most prominent artists, whose practice thoughtfully and evocatively unfolds and re-folds time, draws and erases borders, tells and un-tells history. The publication includes an introductory essay by the editors, along with writings by Tony Birch, Bridget Crone, Jacqueline Doughty, Anthony Gardner, Anneke Jaspers, Ryan Johnston, John Mateer, Shelley McSpedden, Mihnea Mircan, Grace Samboh and Ann Stephen, which give compelling insight into Nicholson’s diverse material approach, political practice, and historical context.

Lines towards Another is published to coincide with two major exhibitions of Nicholson’s work: Tom Nicholson: Drawings and correspondence, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, 24 March–2 June 2018; and Tom Nicholson: Public Meeting, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 6 April–16 June 2019.

Tom Nicholson is an artist who lives in Melbourne. He is represented by Milani Gallery, Brisbane and is a senior lecturer at Monash Art Design and Architecture, Melbourne.

Tom Nicholson: Lines towards Another is supported by the Gordon Darling Foundation and the Myer Foundation.
