Join us for the presentation of artist Madison Bycroft’s live performance work, Antihero. This performance is presented in association with ACCA’s summer exhibition Feedback Loops.
In the development of Antihero, Bycroft has borrowed, critiqued and subverted the traditional format of the ‘epic’; a narrative genre that follows a hero who leaves home, overcomes conflict and ‘finds himself’.
In its stead, this performance follows a brilliantly crafted, at times absurdist, narrative of an identity unravelling.
‘Events’ happen.
The characters wait.
They refuse to perform (dead pan).
The hero is floppy/pathetic (slap stick).
There is repetition.
There is no denouement (etymologically from untying or unknotting), things remain tangled.
