ACCA is delighted to present the launch of Ross Coulter’s Audience, a photographic project by Ross Coulter that took place in ninety-four gallery spaces in Melbourne between 2013 and 2016. Members of the local art community were invited to attend a photo-shoot and were instructed to imagine viewing a performance art event. Drawing on the visual language of 1970s performance art documentation, the work constructs a photographic archive of audiences at that time.

Audience has been produced as an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (17 March – 16 July 2017) and as a limited edition, two-volume book, to be launched at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art on Wednesday 26 April 2017.

Presenting a community of artists, colleagues and friends associated with Melbourne’s contemporary art community at a specific moment in time, the publication depicts 850 participants and 94 gallery spaces in a special two-volume set, which includes 445 images across the two volumes.

Ross Coulter will present a final performance on the occasion of the launch, and accompanying book signing.
