This school holiday workshop is for VCE Art and Studio Arts students wanting to strengthen their art writing skills. Participants will consider how to approach and refine writing about their own processes and ideas, as well as how to communicate the formal and conceptual content of others’ artworks.
ACCA educators will guide students through a structured analysis of an example of reflective art writing, with the opportunity to write a short text in response to an artwork within the ACCA exhibition Kader Attia, before receiving constructive feedback. The complex terrain between visual language and the written word will be approached as a creative problem that, through experimentation, practice and feedback, all young artists can learn to navigate.
Designed to reinforce and complement students’ existing knowledge of art analysis, expression and terminology, the techniques and examples participants will explore in the workshop are intended to bolster writing skills in preparation for both folio submission and written exams.
