On June 26th, 2017, Hacker Group Anonymous made a video claiming NASA has found evidence of extraterrestrial life. During Survival Session #4 Field Theory will be joined by members of VUFOA (Victorian UFO Action) and AusTrek (Melbourne based Star Trek club) to discuss how can we tell if aliens will be friendly or hostile, is there hope to coexist with an alien race and test whether Martyn’s Star Trek knowledge is up to date.
Life in the ACCA bunker has taken it’s toll, Lara has worked her way through the Twilight series for the fourth time and Jacko has stopped communicating, he now spends his days constructing unusable lamp shades from old parachutes. There’s got to be more to life than this. Field Theory poses the big questions with members of the The Last Book Club on Earth and The Second to last Book Club on Earth, Author and researcher Bradley Garrett, Psychologist Rob Gordon and Philosopher Patrick Stokes.
Food is running low, the roads are clogged with the undead and everyone is grossly unfit from months of debating a non-hierarchical power sharing management structure. So how can we move around and make the most of what we have left? Field Theory invites you to brush up on your abseiling skills with the Victorian Climbing Club and learn how to make a meal from leftover food scraps with Food Not Bombs.
Being stuck in your compound is a drag, especially if Pictionary isn’t your thing, but not knowing what’s going on outside is worse. This week Field Theory will be asking, is anybody out there? We’ll be talking to the Western and Northern Suburbs Amateur Radio Club about tuning in after a disaster and why mobile phones are looked down on by the Ham Radio community. We’ll also be joined by members of the Melbourne Anarchist Club who will help us imagine ways society could be reconstructed.
Jacko did a bit of wrestling at school and Martyn once threw rocks at cars from the roof of his house but do these classify as real skills? This week is all about being safe and assessing potential threats. Joined by an ex military survivalist, Field Theory will map the exits, secure the perimeter and discuss features of his ‘bugout’ armoured Humvee. Field Theory will also take lessons in how to weave a hat from grass and turn a fleece into wool with members of the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria.
Is a windowless art gallery covered with one inch steel plates really the safest place to survive the apocalypse? Join Field Theory, members of the prepping community and a professional permaculturist as they assess the fundamental practicalities of surviving in and around ACCA. We’ll do a stock take, try to eat locally sourced weeds and consider whether a group of artists really have what it takes to make it through.
