A series of new ‘wallscapes’ by Melbourne artist James Deutsher that mix high-end architectural design with everyday, domestic objects are the next to feature at ACCA @ Mirka.

Nature and culture are on the menu in this tableaux of the ‘gardenesque’, as Deutsher plates up a range of disparate materials, textures and imagery, all capturing elements of house and home.

In three new works, images from a variety of interior settings and building surfaces are printed onto lustrous, elegant silks.

Another new, large-scale wallscape has been patched together with a series of A4 sheets, printed on a domestic laserjet and crudely taped together.

The artist will also introduce sculptural elements into the work – one large olive branch that will naturally wilt and dry over the course of the show and a series of handrails – some mass produced, others hand made and highly polished and aesthetic.

James Deutsher completed a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) at the Victorian College of the Arts. He has had solo exhibitions both in Melbourne, New Zealand and Singapore, and had works shown in group shows at the Tate Modern, London, MCA Sydney and in galleries in France, China, New Zealand and various artist run spaces and commercial galleries in Melbourne.

ACCA @ MIRKA is a collaboration between the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and Mirka at Tolarno Hotel, presented by Sanpellegrino. ACCA will curate four projects by emerging Australian artists each year, continuing the tradition of bringing great contemporary art to this unique and historic restaurant space.
