The first major survey exhibition by this important Australian artist with an international reputation, Retrospectology brought together Piccinini’s major three-dimensional and digital projects. The spaces of ACCA provided two distinct and perfect environments to explore the mutable atmospheres and weird creatures that have come to represent Piccinini’s worldview. Issues of bioethics, biotechnologies and the environment remain constant themes throughout the artist’s prodigious output of animated sculptures, video interactives and immersive environments. Children were delighted and adults in awe of her population of synthetic organisms, odd animals, bio-morphed baby trucks and tropical forests.
