Known for his highly developed sense of formal compositions and choice of subject matter, Robert Mapplethorpe was a key international figure in contemporary photography. This selection of 60 photographs was the first extensive exhibition of Mapplethorpe’s work to be shown in Australia. It was intended to introduce Australian audiences to the breadth of Mapplethorpe’s practice. The exhibition toured to Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart and Canberra.
