Nadia Hernández: De nuestra felicidad artist tea towel

Alongside the exhibition Like a Wheel That Turns: The 2022 Macfarlane Commissions, Nadia Hernández has created a special edition tea towel for the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. Featuring the newly commissioned text painting De nuestra felicidad 2022, each tea towel is individually hand-printed on a linen blend in bold colours.

‘De nuestra felicidad’ reanimates a phrase from a letter received from the artist’s mother, which lovingly reassures her daughter ‘we are the owners of our own happiness.’ The declarative graphics and chromatic play between image and text recall the geometric design, tropical palette and human realities of Venezuelan modernism, concrete poetry and neo-concrete art.

Produced in Melbourne and made with a limited quantity of 100, the tea towels are available exclusively online and at the ACCA bookshop.

About the artist
Originally from Venezuela, Nadia Hernández’s art is informed by a rich assemblage of cultural, political and familial histories and narratives, and her experience as a member of the Latinx diaspora. Working across painting and drawing, sculpture, textiles and paper constructions, and sometimes incorporating food and music, Hernández gathers her diverse artistic and everyday output into exuberant installations.
