Callum Morton’s Museum Studies #3: The eyes have it 2023 is a new limited edition lithographic print generously developed in support of ACCA’s 21/40 anniversary celebrations – marking twenty-one years in our iconic building designed by Wood Marsh, and forty years as a leading producer of contemporary art in Australia. Continuing the artist’s ongoing Museum Studies series, the work wryly explores the psychological demeanour of ACCA’s architecture and its anxious yet aspirational perspective on the world.

Callum Morton is one of Australia’s leading and most distinguished artists who represented Australia at the 52^nd Venice Biennale in 2007 and has participated in a wide range of prestigious exhibitions nationally and internationally since 1990. One of Australia’s foremost artists working in the context of architecture and the public realm, Callum’s practice encompasses a diverse range of forms from drawing and sculpture to public art and architecture. With humour and a psychoanalytic interest in questions of memory and loss, Morton’s practice presents a melancholic urban archaeology that prompts us to consider the relationship between art and life, history and the present, and to look again at the ubiquitous structures in our urban and psychogeographical landscapes.

Callum has participated in numerous projects at ACCA, including the solo show Callum Morton: Babylonia, 2005; and group shows The Object of Existence, 1995; Rent, 2000; Cycle tracks will abound in utopia, 2004; Unquiet World, 2006; Optical Mix, 2014; and Who’s Afraid of Public Space?, 2021–22.

Callum has an extensive portfolio of architecturally scaled projects in the public realm, including The Underneath, Gadigal Station, Sydney, 2023; Monument #30: Bull, Australian Embassy, Washington, 2023; City Lights, Ace Hotel, Sydney, 2022; Monument Park, New Quay, Docklands, Melbourne, 2015; Silverscreen, Monash University Museum of Art, 2010; Grotto, Fundament Foundation, Netherlands, 2009; and Hotel, Eastlink Freeway, 2008.

Callum Morton is Professor of Fine Art in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at Monash University; director of the research lab Monash Art Projects; and represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne, and Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney.
