Every Thursday, 3–4.30pm
Relational Ecologies: A Slow Reading Group is a weekly reading group convened by Climate Aware Creative Practices (CACP) members Andrew Goodman and Tessa Laird. Running every Thursday afternoon from 16 January – 13 March 2025, A Slow Reading Group is open to anyone, with no prior readings or experience needed to join, and no expectation or requirement to attend all sessions.
The text they will be reading and discussing is Let’s Become Fungal! Mycelium Teachings and the Arts: Based on Conversations with Indigenous Wisdom Keepers, Artists, Curators, Feminists and Mycologists, 2023 by Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodríguez. There will be plenty of photocopies of weekly selections available and limited numbers of the book will be available to purchase in the ACCA Bookshop. We’ll be serving tea, so come and share a cup, listen, and join in if you feel like it.
The process will be slow and collective – reading out loud together and stopping as desired to discuss the text and whatever thoughts and feelings it brings up for participants, with no obligation to read or speak unless you wish to. The process of collective reading is designed to encourage collective thought, emergent concepts and tease out minor threads in the text rather than demonstrate mastery over the author’s ideas. Let’s Become Fungal! is a non-academic text full of interviews with ecologists and art practitioners, primarily from Latin America, but with vital and relevant resonances to experiences on this Southern continent.
We look forwards to reading and discussing this book with you!
