Expressions of interest are now open to present a public program for Who’s Afraid of Public Space? a major exhibition project taking place at ACCA and across Melbourne, exploring the role of public culture, the contested nature of public space, and the character and composition of public life itself.
ACCA is seeking expressions of interest for public programs that respond to central questions of the exhibition. Two programs will be selected for presentation at ACCA in February 2022 to activate the central commission Gathering Space: Ngargee Djeembana, an installation and gathering space in ACCA’s main exhibition hall developed by N’arweet Carolyn Briggs AM and Sarah Lynn Rees.
The successful proposals will each be awarded a program development fee of $1,500 (+GST), and will have the full support of ACCA’s public programs and marketing team, along with access to ACCA’s in-house audio visual equipment and accessibility requirements. The programs will be presented alongside a calendar of talks, discussions, workshops, performances, screenings, reading groups and other events as part of Who’s Afraid of Public Space?

Eligibility:
Applicants must be based in Victoria. EoIs are open to all members of the public – artists, creatives, designers, dancers, musicians, study groups, teachers, and more. Applications are welcome from those under the age of 18, however, contact details for a supervisor or support member who is over the age of 18 must be provided with the application.
ACCA strongly encourages submissions from First Nations people, people from diverse cultural backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, and people living with disability.
Project timeline:
Program development will take place from December 2021 – January 2022
Programs will be presented on either 11 February or 24 February 2022
Budget and fees:
Successful applicants will be awarded a public program development fee is $1,500 (+GST) toward any external creative and production fees.
ACCA will provide full administrative and promotional support, along with simple in-house AV equipment and staff to support projection and sound if required (microphones, speakers and mixer). ACCA will also support accessibility requirements of the presenter/s and audience, such as Auslan or language interpretation.
Selection Criteria:
- A new program that responds to the themes and central questions of Who’s Afraid of Public Space?
- Well-conceived, timely and innovative ideas and content
- Evidence of relevant skills and experience to develop and deliver the program
- Feasibility of project within budget and timeline
- Alignment with ACCA’s mission to ‘Do Art Differently’
- Victorian-based applicants
Along with an overview of your proposed program, you will be required to submit support material with your EoI including: draft budget (including breakdown of program development fee, production, and relevant expenses); CV and biography (including website link/s if applicable); 5 x images of recent work/programs.
