ACCAMag and Art in Your Ear
In 2005 the ACCAMag concluded after nine issues. This year’s editions included texts on Barry McGee’s exhibition at the Meat Market, David Rosetzky, reviews by London-based curator Bridget Crone and a selection of texts from Melbourne artist-run-initiatives.
ACCA’s website continued to grow with the organisation launching its Art in Your Ear program, a series of artist podcasts accessible for free download which continues today.
Education
In 2005, in addition to its usual program of Teachers Professional Development days, educational resource material, guided tours and discussions ACCA also undertook an Arts Immersion Program. Arts Immersion – Starting Points began in Term 3 and was realised in partnership with Chunky Move and the Malthouse Theatre. The program provided regionally based Year 9-11 students with an arts ‘immersion’ day of visual arts, dance and performance arts by the three companies within the one arts precinct. Students were able to learn directly from professional artists, dancers and educators in three separate workshops. The program received extremely positive responses and attendances, and continued into 2006.

Curatorial Clinics
Clinic 3: 29-31 March 2005
Clinic 4: 9-11 May 2005
ACCA’s Curatorial Clinics were a professional development program designed specifically for emerging artists. ACCA recognised that outside the university system there are limited opportunities for critical feedback for young artists. The Curatorial Clinics was ACCA’s effort to redress this deficiency and aimed to provide opportunities for discussion between artists and curators with each artist allocated an hour-long session with the curatorial panel to discuss their artwork and artistic practice.
First run in April 2004, this initiative was developed by ACCA’s Artistic Director, Juliana Engberg. Response to the clinics was so strong and positive that the team decided to take them interstate to Sydney and Brisbane in 2005. In each case the first two clinics were booked out within one hour of posting information onto artist networks and some artists travelled interstate to attend a third session in Melbourne. This year’s Curatorial Clinics were held at the Institute of Modern Art Brisbane (with Director David Broker and ACCA Curator Rebecca Coates) and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (with MCA curators Rachel Kent and Vivienne Webb).
